scuba diving

Thursday, June 29, 2006
Me and my boyfriend have been talking about getting into scuba diving. The other day we were at a dive shop and talked to the guy for quite a while about the course and equipment. Last night we went and took the discover scuba to see if we'd like it. It was a blast. Basically they set up everything for you and we got to swim around the pool for an hour. The first hour was information about the equipment and some different things that we needed to know. Being in the pool was fun. At first it was weird to be breathing in the water but after a few minutes it was fine. I didn't get to go to the bottom of the deep end though as my ear decided to be a pain in the ass and I couldn't get it to clear and it hurt. This was hopefully a one time thing. Next we are going to get certified to be scuba divers! I can't wait. I think it will be so much more fun in the ocean instead of a pool. And if all goes well we are thinking about taking the instructors course so we could go somewhere tropical and teach it.

first and last day

Monday afternoon was my first day at the hotel. I was very excited about starting to work there. When I got there everyone was nice, I got introduced to a whole bunch of people who work there. I was told a couple things by the guy who was training me. He then gave me a book of instructions to read about the computer system they use. He didn't talk to me much, but he was doing a few things so that was fine. Every time the manager was in ear shot though he would start to tell me things. Every time I asked a question he would answer. Then the manager and all the other office staff left. Well then he proceded to go and sit in his office to do "important" work that he had to do. He was doing this work for about five hours and ignored me. I had absolutely nothing to do. I basically sat in the back and did nothing. There were a couple check ins that night and when they came in he just zipped through them and didn't explain a thing to me about what he was doing in the computer or anything. Later that evening the security guard came in and they were talking. They were away from me and they probably figured out of ear shot, but I could still hear them. They were bad mouthing the new manager saying that he had no idea what he was doing and why was he hiring someone and stuff like that. I found out while I was there on Tuesday that the new manager had started on Saturday. I was looking at their schedule and had no clue how I was going to get full time hours as they already had a full staff and the only way for me to get hours would be for other peoples to be cut back. Overall it was a really bad night so yesterday I called to let them know I wouldn't be coming back.

Tuesday morning I had another interview and she said she is making her decision by the end of the week. This afternoon I have another interview. And I still have that other job that starts next Wednesday.

Doubley Employed

Sunday, June 25, 2006
Last night I was at home when I got a phone call from a hotel I had applied at asking if I could come for an interview in the morning. I thought that this was kind of an odd day for an interview being Sunday, but I went. It is for front desk at a hotel in Chilliwack. Basically it sounds like he wants me to eventually to move up to assistant manager, but first he wants to see how well I do and yadda yadda. So of course I took the job, it is what I want to do. I'm not sure what day I start as he is going to be calling me by Tuesday to let me know because he first has to get the approval for the wage he is going to pay me. He is starting me at a higher wage than their normal starting wage. The interview was short and sweet and I'm very excited to be starting there. Now this week I will have to quit the other job.

Employed!

Friday, June 23, 2006
Yesterday morning I got a phone call to go for a second interview with the company I had an interview last week. This time with a different manager. So off I went to an interview. It was short and pretty casual and I basically walked out of there with the job. She told me that the area manager would be calling me within the next couple hours. And she did. I got offered the job wich I of course took. This morning I had to go fill out a bunch of paperwork and pick up an employmee agreement wich I have to bring back next Tuesday. Training starts on July 5th for five weeks. I've never worked anywhere where I've had to do so much training. There is classroom training as well as in store training. I will be training in a different store than the one I will be working in. My first day I have to travel to Surrey, then I have a remote trainer who is coming out to the store I will be training at to train me, as well as training with someone at that store on some days. I also am going to have to go to Vancouver half a dozen times for classroom type training. Should be interesting. I get benefits and life insurance after three months wich will be great. I already have my schedule for all of July wich is nice because then I can make some summer plans. Now two weeks to sit back and relax and shop for some new clothes.

Day Trip

Monday, June 19, 2006
For Fathers Day yesterday I went over to the island to spend the day with my dad, his wife and my sisters. It truly was a fun day. First we went and played mini golf. We played both sets of 18 holes. My sister got a hole in one on the 18th hole of the first side winning herself a free round of golf. Then on the first hole of the second 18 I got a hole in one. We had a blast. Then we went out for lunch and shopping. Every year when my dad gets his taxes back he takes my sisters shopping. I just happened to be there on the right day so I got to benefit from this as well. He gave all three of us some money and we had a while to shop. It was fun for just the three of us to hang out. We all had success and found things to buy. After this I got to go and catch the ferry home. It is almost kind of odd to be catching the ferry to the mainland and that being home. But in a odd way it just feels normal and like this is where I belong.

It was a long day but well worth it. I'm glad that I'm now living close enough that every once in a while I can take a day trip and visit my family. My sisters are already planning on coming to stay with us for a while this summer once we get our own place.

Looking for a job

Thursday, June 15, 2006
The job search has begun. Yesterday I went with Chris to work so he could print me up some resumes and then I went with one of his friends to drop off some resumes. She was kind enough to come with me and drive since I had no clue where I was going. I applied at about half a dozen hotels. The first one I went to said that they are hiring and all the rest told me that they had just hired. This was a little frusterating.

I pretty much have no clue where I am in relation to anything so today I decided to go for a walk and get a bit of an idea. I walked for an hour and a half and now I feel a bit better about having to go out and drive tomorrow. I don't feel so completely lost anymore.

Tomorrow morning I have an interview at 10 and then a few hotels in town to go apply at. I hope next week to get a job and if not I'll branch out and apply for other types of jobs as well, but for now I'd like to try and get something doing what I know wich would be in a hotel.

I made it!

Tuesday, June 13, 2006
Yesterday was the day of the big move. Chris flew up to Fort St. John and got there at 8:30am. We then loaded up my car. To my surprise everything that I had fit in there. I then went to say goodbye to Erin and Kyle. That sucked cause I know I won't get to see them for a while. We left town at about 10:30am. The drive overall was good. We ran into a bit of construction right off the bat, wich put us about an hour behind. We stopped a few times for gas and food. Altogether it took us 15 hours, we got to Chris', well I guess my new place, just before 1am. The last couple hours of the drive were the worst because it was pouring rain off and on.

Today we got to sleep in wich was nice, then we had to go to Vancouver airport to pick up his car. I've never driven in any sort of big city before, so that was interesting. Overall it was good, I just followed Chris, we only got separated once because of a light. He noticed right away and pulled off to wait for me. We spent most of the way on the phone, that way I would know where we had to go. Once we were on the highway thought, it was just like driving anywhere else.

Tomorrow the job search starts. Hopefully I won't be too long without a job or else I am going to go crazy with nothing to do.

Lucky Streak

Saturday, June 10, 2006
The other day I stopped at the corner store to grab a couple drinks on my way to Erin's work. I decided to get myself a couple of scratch tickets for fun. I won seven dollars, so yesterday on the way home I stopped back at the corner store and exchanged them for more scratch tickets. I scratched those and thought I had won $6 wich I thought was really cool. Today I stopped at the corner store yet again and to my surprise found out that I had in fact won $20. Usually my rule is that if I win more than $10 I take the money, but this never happens. I broke my rule this time and just got more scratches. I am happy about this as I just finished scratching them and I have won $23. Tomorrow I will go and get some more. Will this lucky streak continue?

Last night I fell more in love

Tuesday, June 06, 2006
Last night I was having trouble getting to sleep so I called my boyfriend to talk to him. I fell more in love with him during this conversation. We were talking about what type of place we would like to rent when we start to look. He said to me that we should have a place that we can have room for my sisters to come stay with us. He doesn't even know how much this means to me. My sisters are my world and to have him think of this shows to me how much he cares about me being happy.

This afternoon I emailed a resume to a resort that I heard was hiring near where I'll be moving. About an hour later I got a call from a woman from the resort saying that they are hiring. We talked for a few minutes and she said she's looking for someone for front desk as well as night audit. She gave me her number and said to call her when I got down there.

This gives me hope of getting a job fast if people are calling me.

Another New Look

A big thanks to Erin for fixing my blog. The other day she redid it and that went to crap and now she fixed it again! I love it. Very groovy.

I'm an addict!

Thursday, June 01, 2006
I am completely 100% addicted to Pogo. I spend way too much time playing games there. Right now the game of choice is bowling. Every week I work to get my badges. Badges equal points and I want to get to 1 million. You can spend your tokens to buy clothes for your pogo mini, but I usually just prefer to save so that I can see that number get bigger. I think I need help, major help. Me and Erin play in the same game rooms, I know she is addicted as well. I can't stop and go through withdraws when I can't get my Pogo fix. Somebody help me. I don't know what I'll do when I have a job that I can't play on the computer.
